Teens Classroom and Driving Policies (Age 15- 17)

Teens (age 14-17) are required to complete Driver Education course in order to obtain the Graduate Drivers License. Drivers Education course has two phases:

Phase I – Classroom Phase (24 Hours) – Each class is 2 hours long. Depending on the schedule you choose, you will participate in a 3 weeks class Monday-Thursday. Or you will attend a 2 week class Monday-Saturday. Check Classes Schedule for timings: FRISCO or PLANO

Phase II – Driving/In-Car Phase(7 hrs. Driving, 7 hrs. Observation) – You will have 7 lessons, 2 hours per lesson (1 hour Drive, 1 hour Observation) with a State of Texas Certified Instructor.

Students have 180 days (6 months) to complete the course. This includes the classroom, make-up lessons and behind-the-wheel. The 180 day start date will be from the first day of class. (This is a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation rule). Failure to complete all driver education requirements within the contract term will result in the contract being cancelled. The parent may elect to purchase a contract extension, therefore providing additional time to complete the incomplete course requirements.

  • 1 to 2 driving lessons=30 day extension $35.00
  • 2 to 4 driving lessons=90 day extension $75.00
  • 5 to 7 driving lessons=120 day extension $90.00

What Do I Bring to The Class?

1 – Notebook to take notes

2 – Pen or Pencil

3 – Arrive 20 minutes early on first day to complete paperwork if you haven’t done so already


How Do I Get My Learner Permit? – Teens – Age (15 -17)

Learner’s License–also known as an Instruction Permit. Once you complete the first 6 hours of classroom training (the first 3 days) and are between the ages of 15-18, you are qualified to apply for your Learner’s License.

In order for your student to obtain a Learner’s License, you will need to make an appointment with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and take the following Documents with you:

1 – Parent will sign Texas Residency Affidavit at the DPS

2 – Proof of Legal Status: Student’s US birth certificate (original or certified copy only) or US Passport or Resident Alien Card or Foreign Passport with Valid Visa

3 – Social Security Card-Original (No Required for certain non-immigrants)

4 – VOE(Verification of Enrollment) obtain from High School – Required for student age below18.

5 – DE-964 – Form provided by Driving School

6 – Fee charged by the DPS . Can be paid by Cash/Check/Credit Card

7 – Two(2) Proof of Texas residency (can be on Parent or Student name) – Example Utility Bills, Auto/Medical Insurance Bill, Bank Statement, Phone Bills, Credit Card Statement (should be no older then 60 days)

8 – Parent’s proof of relationship to student


How Do I Get My Learner Permit? – Adults – Age (18 & Up)

We use a third party system to provide our students flexibility to select the date and time according to their availability

1 – Click on Schedule Drive Time Account Setup

2 – Click on Register Tab on the top menu

3 – Create your profile and set Username and password

4 – Must Select the Correct Business Name based on the location you are enrolled at.

5 – Student will be able to start scheduling, once DFW approves the account.

Driving Schedule opens up every Last Day of the month (5PM for Plano and 7PM for Frisco). Additional Driving Lessons are released throughout the month. If the calendar is full, please check back often for new openings. If you are not able to find schedule according to your availability, please open a Scheduling Support Ticket. Our team will work with you to accommodate your schedule.

Student must appear for drive time 5 minutes early, with valid and original Learner Permit. Must wear eye glasses/contact lenses if have restriction A on permit.

Driving Lesson Cancellation Policy

When you schedule a driving lesson, you are reserving a car and an Instructor. If you need to change or cancel a drive time scheduled on our online you must sign into your Drive Time Reservation account and cancel your drive time online.

If you scheduled a drive time over the phone or via email confirmation. If you need to cancel or reschedule. You must call or send us an email/Customer Support Ticket to change or cancel a drive time.


Classroom Make-Up

A student may miss a total of 5 days of classroom without being dropped from the course (this is a Texas law) Each missed class must be made-up in order to complete the course requirements. Each Make-up class is $5.00 and can be completed online at Make-Up Portal.


How can I complete my Drive Time Faster

The Fast Track service is designed for parents and students who are operating under time constraints and require expedited completion of the Driver Education course. This service demands a high level of cooperation from both the parent and student to ensure timely progress.

A non-refundable fee (Check Fee with office) applies for Fast Track enrollment. As part of this service, the school administrator will take responsibility for scheduling the student’s driving sessions.

Please note: Failure to attend a scheduled driving session will result in a No $35.00 missed lesson fee.


Refund Policy – Driving Classes or Driving Lesson

Refund computations will be based on actual instruction received through the last day of attendance. The effective date of the termination for refund purposes will be the earliest of the the following:

1 – The last day of attendance.

2 – The date of receipt of written notice from the student

A full refund of all tuition and fees is due and refundable in each of the following cases:

1 – When an enrollee is not accepted by the school

2 – If the course of instruction is cancelled by the school

3 – If the student’s enrollment was procured as a result of any misrepresentation in advertising, promotional materials of the school, or misrepresentation of the school.

$35 Administrative Fee + 4% Transaction fee (for Credit Card only) deducted from all the refunds. All Refunds shall be completed within 30 days from the day a Refund Request submitted through our office.


Road Test – DFW Driving School – Teens (Age 16 – 20)

DFW Driving School offers the DPS Authorized Road Test for Teens (Obtain Learners Permit via Teens Drivers Ed course) at both Plano and Frisco Locations. So no matter whether you completed your training in an online classroom, were parent taught or went to another driving school you can take the State Official Road Test (driving test) with us.

Below are the Documents/Eligibility Requirements:

For Teens (Age 16-24) Obtained Learner License through Teens Drivers Ed Program

  • 1 – Age 16 years or up
  • 2 – A valid/unexpired learner license (Must had it for a minimum of six months – Check date on the back on Learners Permit)
  • 3 – Evidence of Completion of Drivers Ed (32 hrs class + 14 hrs of behind-the-wheel training):Obtain DE-964 Certificate from the Driving School you have completed the course.
  • 4 – Verification of Enrollment (V.O.E) – Obtained from High School, expires 30 days from issuance (required for student age under 18 only).
  • 5 – Completed -Impact Texas Teen Driver Program (ITTD) offered online. Printed certificate required on the day of the Road Test.
  • 6 – Completed 30 Hours Parent Driving Log. Click Here to print the 30 hours log.

Road Test – DFW Driving School – ADULTS (Age 18 and UP)

Refund Policy – Road Test Cancellation or Reschedule

$25.00 Administrative Fee will be charged if:

Cancelling the Road Test.

Reschedule due to non-compliance of the documentation requirements

Reschedule due to non compliance of the vehicle requirements.

Reschedule due to not arriving in time for the test.


What form of Payments are accepted?

Cash, Personal Checks and Credit Cards(4% Credit Card transaction fee apply). Promotional rates must be paid in full. If you prefer to make payments, you can divide the cost in 2 payments. If payment is not made, the student may be issued the final completion certificate. $25.00 late payment fee will be applied.
